On stage, Helen Wheels is a motivating source of action. She generates the punky charm of
Cyndi Lauper but sings with the gutsiness and funk that was the essence of the late Janis
Joplin. Like a swashbuckler, she takes up every inch of the stage, kicking, jumping,
sometimes wielding swords and swinging from ropes as her voice rises clearly above the
band's high energy beat Helen's musculature is a part of the performance and evokes a
sense of strength that can be seen, heard, and felt. Fans remember when Wheels used
Ruthless and Lilith, her pet boa constrictors, as part of her act. Says, Helen, "It's
funny, people think of me as macho and tough and mean because of my stage performance, but
actually I'm a real quiet and sensitive person." She reconsiders for a moment,
"I mean, anybody smart wouldn't mess with me anyway."

The only way you might forget Helen Wheels once you know her, that is would be if someone
gave you a frontal lobotomy. Hey Time, need a cover?

She's also blossomed into a better singer than anyone....would have imagined. She is every
bit as good a rock vocalist as Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, or Deborah Harry.

"****"...plays concussive rock laced with punk, disco, and heavy metal
elements... Wheels... vocal phrasing that at times is reminiscent of the Pretenders'
Chrissy Hinde of the B-52's. Wheels...creates a special intensity essential to all good
hard rock and roll. This is a busy, live sound that transcends a fuzzy mix and hints of a
live show that must be white light and fire.

Wheels, who makes Joan Jett look timid by comparison, is the original leather rock 'n
roller.
